Raspberry Kisses

Simple quilts are my favorite. I stumbled upon this Raspberry Kiss block ages ago. If you're looking for a pretty simple block, this one is great. I did a little color play with this one, graduating from dark to light.

Walmart backing again. Shhh, don't tell my hard-core quilting friends.

I have been hoarding this Tiger Lily fabric for ages. Can Heather Ross do anything wrong? I think not.

I decided to keep it soft with some minimal ditch quilting.

Striped binding again. I made like 80 yards. I bound this quilt, then gave the rest away to my quilting friend for her birthday. Who doesn't love pre-made bias binding?

I put this quilt in my local County Fair and it got second in the baby quilts division (don't get too excited, it's a small county fair). After submitting entries for 8 years, the nice older lady judges are getting to know my style. I'm the only younger quilter to enter. They commented that they liked the mix of background whites on this one. They also commented that I forgot to wash off all my blue marking pen on the quilting lines. Oopsies.

This one was gifted to a dear friend who just had her first baby girl. I figured a pink explosion quilt would be a great way to break her into the world of little girls. With three of my own, I'm a bit of an expert.

Low Volume [+]

I declare this as my favorite quilt ever. I give all my quilts away. I didn't even have a lap quilt for my living room. So I set out to make this one. I loved this pattern ever since my amazing quilting sister in law made this one for my second daughter.

They are made of little log cabins. See? I loved mixing all the low volume prints on this. It was a great way to use up scraps. And it kept me interested for all 39 blocks.

I used my left over strips to make a rainbow back. I love this back.

I entered it into my local county fair, and the lady shrieked when she saw the back. She loved it.

I've been hoarding those horses for forever. The best thing about quilting for yourself is that you can use every precious piece you've been saving. I tried a new figure eight quilting. It was super fun. A new favorite alternative to stippling.

Houndstooth hand binding for the win.

I scored a blue ribbon on this baby. The ahem, older women, ahem sometimes don't understand my modern point of view. Haha. They also thought the quilting was "distracting" on the dark pieces on the front. I disagree :)

But I like challenging myself. It makes me slow down and really take time on binding and matching my points up. Until next year, county fair.

Baby Hearts

Another baby quilt given away. I ran across this pattern at Cluck Cluck Sew a few months ago, and I immediately knew I wanted to make this for my little niece, due in August. I tried to be more adventurous with the background, and not be so matchy matchy.

These hearts came together super fast! It really looks more complicated that it is. I also loved this pattern because she uses strips around each block rather than sashing. I kind of hate sashing.

I love using blue for girls.

I tried something new with the binding this time. I used my serger to finish off the edges before machine binding and it worked like a dream! No puckering or pulling. I've started doing it every time.

My sister in law flipped when she opened the package. I love making quilts for people who appreciate the time that goes into it.

Baby Pow Wow

I gave away a quilt at a baby shower this weekend, and one of my friends asked, "Are you keeping track of all the quilts you give away?" I've taken pictures of almost all of them, but I needed a home to house them all: enter Little House on the Dairy.

Quilting is just a hobby, especially while my kids are little. But if I get time to document it, it will be here. So, welcome.

Baby Pow Wow. Pattern here. I feel like I'm a year behind everyone else in the quilting world, but whatever. I love this quilt. And it came together so fast! Like start to finish in two days.

My four year old is just tall enough for this task. Won't be the last time.

Trying to be a little more carefree with my fabric choices, less match matchy.

I made 80 yards of this striped bias binding. It just keeps on giving and giving. I love not having to make binding at the end. It's such a treat to just go pick it out, already made.

I just counted and this is my 8th (!!) quilt finish of the year. Not to mention three easter dresses, one quilted pillow, and one quilted table runner.

Phew.
